Hello yall! Here's a summarized recap of our first sanctioned tournament of the season -
Pool A - Kansas, Notre Dame, us, and Minnesota Saturday -- was a weird day for our pool. Whatever the end results were, however, we ended the day knowing that we had played fun and confident ultimate. Our first game was against Kansas Betty's. We started out on a 5 point run as the team was fired up on the field and on the sidelines. Betty started to fight back, but we took half at 8-5. The game ended on universe with Betty pulling through for a final of 10-11. Our second game was against Notre Dame Wombs. We had played them in the fall and knew they were going to make us work hard. They scored 5 points to start until we finally scored. Even though the results don't show it, there were lots of Ds and long hardworked points. The sidelines were able to keep our players on the field going even when it seemed impossible to take another breath. There were Ds not only from known vets, but also from our rookies!, most notably a large handblock from #9 Jess and #42 Ray Lay. The game ended 5-15, but according to Coach Brooks, we were "having fun, working hard, decisive, and confident." The last game of the day was against our regional pals University of Minnesota Ninjas. Things that came out of this game: long points, many turns, falls from both sides from the annoying mud, and many, many layout Ds from #33 Anna. The turns led to hard cap going off and ending the game at 10-8 with other great Ds from #55 Liz and #2 Rachel. We ended the day 1-2, putting us at 2nd in our pool. Sunday -- Prequarters against Nebraska Cuddle Raptors consisted of lots of sideline intensity as Cuddle went up 4 points. We caught up with focus and teamwork at 5s, but they pulled away to take half 6-8. Unfortunately, we couldn't pull through and the game ended 6-15. Our second game was against UNI Monium. Due to confusion, they didn't show up until 20 minutes into the round which led to 2 assessed points, starting the game at 2-0. Half was taken at 8-2 and the game ended 15-7. The last game of the day and the tournament was against WUWU. They did not let us let up for the last one of the day as it was a very intense game. Half was 8-5. Cool things happened like a high release backhand from #84 Havel to #55 Liz in the endzone and numerous #2 Rachel Ds. The game ended 15-9 with a cute spirit circle with WashU. 2-1 for the day putting us at 9th place overall out of almost 30 teams. Not bad for a team that hasn't been outside in almost 4 months!
